Carpentry & Construction

Every family deserves a safe and secure place they can call home - but so many don’t. Too often we find families living with leaking roofs, collapsing walls, unsecured doors and windows with no light of any kind inside the house.

It’s the job of the Priestmead Construction Team to survey, identify and carry out vital reparation work to the structure of the beneficiaries homes.

“I am always rejoicing when I see a family which was out of shelter, praise the Lord after Bosco has finished repairing their house for them.”

Charlotte Murorunkwere
Nutrition Division Leader

On joining the program, a family’s house is surveyed. Aspects such as structural safety, roof condition, ventilation and security are graded from red to green. Bosco, the division leader, co-ordinates the construction teams, prioritising the most urgent concerns to a families safety or health.

  • The focus of the division is to provide a safe and secure place that a family can finally call home. For the on-site construction team, that means reinforcing or even replacing structural walls and in most cases a new timber roof frame with corrugated metal sheets as the roof covering. The on-site team are also responsible for installing the items made by the carpenters at the workshop.

  • The carpentry team are responsible for manufacturing, by hand, the external doors and windows required during the initial repair of someones house. For families further in to the Priestmead program the carpenters also construct bed frames, benches, chairs and tables.

  • The Carpentry & Construction division of Priestmead is the largest in terms of the number team members. The division is lead by staff member Bosco who co-ordinates multiple Site Managers, each working in a different location. The Site Managers have up to 3 skilled masons and 2 labourers within their team.
